Perth Airport T2 Link, Perth, WA

Perth Airport’s Domestic Terminal 2 (T2) recently opened to passengers and is located next to the International Terminal (T1). Designed by Hassell Architects, the $120 M airport upgrade is a response to increased passenger numbers due to Perth’s population growth.

The fly-in, fly-out workers that support the state’s extensive resources industry make up 90% of the passengers travelling through the domestic terminal. Increased tourism due to low cost domestic airfares is also a contributing factor. The airport is designed to cater for 36 aircraft and has 16 check-in counters and space for self-service bag drop technology.

Project Design Brief

T2 is linked to the long-term car parks and has a dedicated short-term car park located directly in front of the terminal. Dedicated drop-off and pick-up lanes are located in front of the terminal as well as a separate taxi and bus area. The new sheltered forecourt area required extensive lighting and communication infrastructure for pedestrian safety and designers wanted to minimise the appearance of the locked access covers in the pavement.
